Monday Music – 25 October 2010

Aint it glorious today?  Here are the five songs that have made me feeling glorious all week…

Pretty Lights – Out Of Time (mp3)
With the release of his third and final free EP, Glowing In The Darkest Night, Pretty Lights completes the best giveaway since that ship reefed off the Cornish coast.  Overall this last effort is woozier and more thoughtful than the previous pair, but it still comes with the odd banger, such as this slice of digital velvet.

Club 8 – Closer Now (mp3)
A follow-up to the masterful Western Hospitality, this number sees the Swedes ditch furious glad-tidings for a more succulent Caribbean rhythm, and trade electro dance stamps for beach pop badges.  Who said it’s winter?

The Rest – John Huston (mp3)
John Huston was a painter before he became a famous film-director, perhaps explaining why movies like Moby Dick were quite so visual, so striking on the eye.  Talking of striking, this anthemic rock paean to the man himself is powerful and grandiose, but all the while rather tender.

Daddy Lion – Morning (mp3)
There’s something oh-so-comforting about the forlorn, jaundiced rhythm of this groggy rock number - like a battered old kitchen table or a book with tell-tale creases, it speaks of experience and memories in a warm, familiar manner.

Two Fingers – Fool’s Rhythm (mp3)
As I’m often a complete fool, and as I like furious dub rhythms and trippy songs, I’ve decided this tune was made solely with me in mind.  It probably wasn’t.

Monday Music’s a weekly post where I abandon my London focus for five songs from artists anywhere that I’ve enjoyed in the past week
