Charli XCX is the logical conclusion to a sexualised, androgynised, technologised and increasingly enraged female bitch-pop evolution that began with Madonna and has taken on Lady Sovereign, [Lele]Speaks, Goldielocks, Karen O, MIA, Lady GaGa and others en route. Backed by fearsome techno beats, the long-tipped Charli – generally clad in something kinky and emancipated – prowls around the stage, cackling about rival women and jealous lovers. These are feverish polemics – the stuff of exclamation marks, Skins soundtracks and garishly-coloured American Apparel lycra - that thrill and tire in equal measure.
