Apologies for the bandwidth issues earlier. It’s now sorted, so let’s get to Monday Music while Monday just about remains:
Girls – Vomit
Oh, the epic and often-hideous search for love…

Lia Ices – Daphne (Feat. Justin Vernon)
For almost three minutes, this is a pain-bruised, shimmering Celtic folk slowie, reminiscent of Cocteau Twins or Clannad. Then, unexpectedly, the influence and voice of Vernon (aka Bon Iver) kicks in via increasingly gumptious guitars, and substance is determinedly added to the ever-more-epic mix. (Bon Iver fans are also directed to this nice team-up with James Blake)
White Label – Jean 1 (mp3)
White Label’s ‘Stolen Voices’ is a “bootleg remix album” taking rare or unreleased tracks and demos, and then reworking them with the original vocals in this place. Hidden gems aplenty are promised, including this Northern Soul reworking of The Supremes’ ‘5.30 Plane’, from 1972 LP ‘The Supremes’.

Cold Showers – I Don’t Mind
Another slightly murky guitar odyssey, but this time with a top-down, hands-out-of-the-window, eyes-closed blow-out chorus.

Love Inks – Be Brave
One of a raft of great songs by this new Austin act, this one manages to be both perky and soothing in one neat swoop. It’s taken from a limited edition 7” release, ‘Rock On’/’Be Brave’, out today through Italian label Hell, Yes!.
