Monday Music – 19 December 2012

Monday Music’s the one weekly post where SOIWT drops its London-only focus.

Races – Big Broom (mp3)
A friend told me earlier I’m not the person she used to know.  I want to go back and rescue the former me, who was undoubtedly a purer soul, pluck and restore him.  This elegaic song by LA sextet Races would be my soundtrack.

The Suzan – Devils
The Suzan’s Strokes cover was one of the best-received songs ever plugged on this blog, and here the Chinese band are with another frenetic funfair of a song, exhausting and exhilarating in equal measure.

Spectrals – Get A Grip
This is lovely and lazy. (via SEXBEAT)

U.S. Girls – The Island Song
You walk along and everyone’s shouting at you, screaming at you, and yet you can’t hear them, they’re just moving mouths you could stick your finger into, soundless vacuums, and you smile to yourself and walk on, through the soundless screeches, through the vitriol, just you and the persuasive potion pouring from earphone to ear.  You smile, safe and warm in your secret little world.

Define One – Love & Other Agonies
Some days I feel like a regular, normal human being, with interests and foibles like the rest of you.  Others, I feel arrestingly like a fucking weirdo,  destined to peer in from the fringes and remember when it was different.  The truth is probably that I should stop being so indulgent; the sort of soundscapes the Bulgarian artist Stephan Panev, a.k.a. Define One, creates rather inspire it, though.
